The City of Prescott, in cooperation with the Arizona Department of Transportation, is planning the construction of a new traffic interchange on State Route 89A on the northern edge of Prescott in Yavapai County, Arizona. The purpose of the project is to improve traffic safety, provide improved access, and accommodate future traffic volumes generated by the rapidly growing North Prescott area. Alternatives being considered include a new bridge over SR 89A, approach roads to the bridge, freeway on and off ramps, intersections between Side Road and the freeway ramps, a diamond interchange with signals or a diamond interchange with roundabouts. As part of the project, the City of Prescott plans to develop a multi-use path ("Rails-to-Trails") crossing of SR 89A utilizing an existing cattle undercrossing near the existing Side Road Alignment. What ever the final design, this interchange will be compatible with SR 89A Corridor Master Plan so as to accommodate future growth.
