ADOT has resumed work on the Jerome Retaining Wall after delays due to the condition of the bedrock that could not have been known prior to excavating for the new wall. These conditions delayed the construction schedule as designers worked to quickly redesign the project based on the bedrock conditions. Crews are currently working to install the wall. The project is scheduled for completion in approximately one month.
While SR 89A will remain open throughout the duration of the project, the roadway is restricted 24 hours a day just south of Jerome on the way to Prescott. A temporary traffic signal allows traffic to move through the restricted area in alternating directions. Retaining wall work is scheduled between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Motorists should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during work hours and a delay of 5-10 minutes during non-work hours. Travel between Clarkdale and Jerome will not be restricted. Commuter traffic that travels between Prescott Valley and the Verde Valley along this section of SR 89A may elect to take an alternate route using SR 169, I-17, and SR 260.
Weekly construction eUpdates are available by signing up for either the State Route 89 or the Verde Valley SR 260 construction eUpdates. The same information will be distributed in both eUpdates.
